“He sent me to bring the GOOD NEWS to the poor……”
To bring about the Good News to the Poor, We, the F.M.M. Sisters at Vijaya Jyoti Convent, Kansabel, Jashpur District, in the State of Chattisgarh, India, have ventured into a new service in favor of the women and young girls of the region being trafficked daily to other parts of the country and abroad for the purposes of domestic service, cheap child labor, commercial sex exploitation and many other forms of cruelty to women and children.  We began this mission through our already existing Jeevan Jharna Vikas Sanstha (JJVS), a registered NGO of FMM Sisters of Delhi Province, working for the development of the Tribals of Jhashpur Region in Chattisgarh, India.
Two of us from Vijaya Jyoti Convent, Kansabel, Sheeba Antony and Annie Jesus Mary are fully engaged in this ministry. Realizing the  fast spreading  danger of thousands of our young people, especially  women and children  falling  into the hands of traffickers and being exploited,  we   began focusing  our  attention  on the transport  of these young poor people from the  interior villages to the cities  in the name of jobs, financial security and other promises of wealth and well-being. Traffickers lure impoverished tribal girls by promising them jobs in big cities but force most of them into prostitution. Unwittingly the poor starving villagers are ever ready to move on with the traffickers in search of a promised paradise. From Jashpur alone, over 20,000 girls belonging to Chhattisgarh's tribal region have been sold by human traffickers in the last eight years in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai  in the name of jobs and trainings, our  former Chhattisgarh chief minister said in a  recent statement..
Seeing the plight of our poor people, we began tracking down the nets of the traffickers from where the girls were being transported. Our enthusiasm in this Mission caught the attention of both the Government and the Non Government officials of the region.    For the first time the State Government invited us (JJVS) to participate in the workshop on  Antihuman Trafficking from May 26th to 28th 2012. At this Public gathering of   about 230 Government and likeminded Non Government officials, Sr. Annie Jesus fmm spoke about JJVS’ activities presently very much focused on anti human trafficking. This  was the beginning of a strong bonding between  us FMMs, our Organization JJVS,  politicians, Police and  renowned philanthropists and others working for the poor. This has boosted our courage in this daring mission and we find the local police officials ever at hand to help us out or seeking our collaboration in their rescue operation of the trafficked persons. Here below we present the details of one of our joined efforts in rescuing five trafficked Young girls.
Rescue Operation in Collaboration with the   Police Force.
On 5th June 2012 Srs. Annie and Emelda Kujur fmm from Vijaya Jyothi Convent Kansabel along with the local police Inspector and his team went to a distant village to rescue 5 Girls who were trafficked to Mumbai. All the 5 girls were between the ages of 15 to 21. Kiran Kathan, the 20 year old leader of this group was taking the other girls to Bombay for domestic work. While they were waiting for the bus at the station the police nabbed them. Immediately they informed JJVS staff to come to the spot to interview the girls. Sisters along with the police met the girls and counseled them. The parents and the local Panchayat President were called and instructed not to send the girls especially minors to work anywhere. Making minor girls to work is crime. The parents of the girls were made to understand the pros and cons of trafficking and difficulties of life for these girls in the cities.  The police wrote the report and send the girls back to their homes.
Our involvement in the Village protection committee at Jashpur.
The Government, deciding to make Jashpur a CRIME FREE district formed a new committee in 2012. The role of the members was to reduce crime in the villages and to bridge the gap between the Police and the society at large. The members were to be people of character, commitment and integrity. It was a rare privilege that we sisters too are considered part of this group.
On 6th June 2012 Srs. Annie and Emelda fmm, along with the local police team  attended the Conference of the  Village Protection Committee and the sisters  were given  the opportunity to address the large gathering. Both the sisters spoke about JJVS work in Kansabel related to anti human trafficking and our net working with the local police. It was an eye opener for the people and after the meeting many parents started to come to Kansabel asking for help to bring back their minor girls from different cities. The organization is working hard to help these people to rescue their children.   We have teamed up well with the Police of the area to protect the girls from being taken away from the bus stands or the railway stations.
The most pathetic story of these children is the fact that this violation mostly has been inflicted on the children by their parents and by the agents who are their own relatives. This is one of the biggest crimes in our Jashpur district. At this juncture it is our responsibility to bring awareness among the villagers and work earnestly to bring back all our minor girls those who are away from the villages. To control over this crime various plans have been implemented in our district especially through the Panchayats.
Along with our staff, we  also took part in a  2 day training June 2012 on anti human trafficking at the district level  by the police department of Jashpur district for police personnel’s, lawyers, CWC department, media personals and the selected NGOs of Jashpur.  At this session, JJVS depicted in a creative way our interventions, experiences, network with the local police and our suggestions to curb this malady. It was a factual picture of our work and was well appreciated by everyone. A memento has been awarded to JJVS for our contribution to bring dignity to the humanity.
Bonding with the Villagers to reinforce our efforts.
We are trying out various means to curb this deadly malaise of Human Trafficking. We have succeeded in getting    tremendous support from the civic Officials and now we are working towards bonding with the villagers themselves to save their daughters who have been lured away to the big cities from this mainly tribal, poverty-stricken region. It is rare that they encounter good fortune and prosperity there. More often, they are physically abused and forced into prostitution.  And yet, the call of the major Cities are so enticing that innocent girls, mostly in their teens and unaware of what lies ahead,  often run away from home   even without their parents’ knowledge.  We have begun to create awareness among the villagers on the evil consequences of human trafficking. We were delighted to get the support of a villager on 20th June 2012. Sisters Annie & Sheeba received a call from, one of the villagers saying that there were Girls getting ready to go to Delhi along with an agent. They had well planned their trip and had arranged a vehicle to get out from their village in the early hours of 21st June before anyone notices. Gathering all the information Sr. Annie contacted the local police immediately and they agreed to come along with us to catch the agent and the minor girls. At 11pm sisters and the police went to the village along the village president to locate the family while they were sleeping in the house. The car, the driver and his friend, the agent and the girls were arrested and brought to the police station for enquiry. They were interviewed by the police and by the sisters as well. The driver and his friend were taken to the jail; but the girls were released and we were happy   to hand them over to their parents.
Dear friends, we need the support of your prayers to carry out this mission. Please do bless us.
Srs.Sheeba Antony and Annie Jesus Mary

They were further informed that the boy hails from a very rich family and the marriage expense will be met by the boys party. He requested them not to lose this golden opportunity. Their joy had no bound and agreed to give their daughter in marriage but only after a period of six months..As soon as Tumpa came to know about it, she felt very sad for she has to discontinue her studies and at a very tender age she has to marry. Suddenly Tumpa recalled to her mind the lessons taken during the awareness classes on Anti Human Trafficking.Without any hesitation,at once she informed her AGG members about the marriage proposal .
Then and there the members met together to work out a plan to save their friend Tumpa. On the following week, as usual when the Ferriwala came to the village to sell, still better things, the AGG members stopped him at the entrance of the village and asked him to give the details of the boy, and then only they would let him enter the village. They kept on asking the informations about the boy and his family.Such as:

Name of the boy, his address, qualification, the nature of his work and boys mobile number.
His parents name.
Name of the police station, BDO office and panchayat

While the girls were asking in turn the above mentioned informations the Feriwala got fuzzeld and was not able answer correctly.
